General Plan AmendmentApproved

Data Center UDC amendments (Chapter 35)

San Antonio

Description

The city's first-ever data center zoning rules, requiring a Specific Use Authorization (council vote) for data centers in C-3 commercial and light industrial districts, by-right only in more intense industrial zones if minimum standards are met, a ban over the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone, and a new legal definition of 'data center.'

Impact summary

Any new data center in most commercial and light industrial areas now needs a public council vote, giving residents notice and a say; projects in heavy industrial zones meeting the standards can build without one.
